Recital for Chamber Orchestra and Piano
Concert information
Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino is now among the most sought-after young artists in the world. Alongside his appearances in theaters, he has also won new audiences for classical music as a YouTube star. Born in 1995, he aims to break the habits of traditional programs and bring forth new worlds of sound. He interprets great masterpieces with a fresh perspective, juxtaposing them with contemporary music, his own compositions, or improvisations. In his most recent project, everything revolves around his personal “Chopin Orbit.” He writes, “My pieces are born from the inspiration of Chopin’s works. Sometimes I quote a tune or use a melody, but I never simply tried to compose in Chopin’s style. Rather, I wanted to combine his spirit with my modern sensibility and creativity.” He juxtaposes his compositions with selected pieces by Chopin, Camille Saint-Saëns, Thomas Adès, and Igor Stravinsky. To broaden the sound, he often changes instruments, from grand to vintage piano, and from modern piano to celesta. It is pure desire to experiment.
